For decades we all enjoyed the Empire State buildings lights. They have been through the rainbow, surprising us and reminding us of an occasion. We have looked up at it expecting a certain color on a given holiday like Christmas.
A couple of highlights:
July 17, 2015 – Green in honor of Eid al-Fitr …Ed WHAT?, no I didn’t switch to another language on my computer. Eid al-Fitr is the end of Ramadan
We just had a shooting in Chattanooga Tennessee losing 5 marines on July 16, the day before the Empire State building decided to light it up Green for the celebration of the end of Ramadan. Ramadan, basically a time of fasting from a lot of things of pleasure, eating, drinking smoking, sex from dawn to sunset for a one month period each year.
Pamela Geller wrote a piece for Breitbart and gave her thoughts on that green glow. She also gave her two cents on Muslims who thought that the top of the Empire State building should have a place at the top of the world to pray. So much so that they have a $5 million lawsuit, who knows maybe we won’t be able to go up there soon because they will be praying?
So they celebrated:
- U.S. Womens National Soccer Team win,
- Independence Day,
- Canada Day,
- NYC Pride Week,
- NYCFC NYC Football (soccer) Club ,
- International Fund for Animal Welfare,
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC
- Israel Parade
- Memorial Day
- AIDS
- The Simpsons movie release
- Frank Sinatra’s birthday and death
The list goes on, they seem to hit quite a few events and holidays but it seems to me that they should have had something to honor our Five fallen Marine heroes in Chattanooga. But is this becoming too common a thing or is it because it’s depressing and why bring up our war with radical Islam.
For blogging out loud)) when I heard that they lit it up in green for Ramadan, I along with a lot of people were really upset. But this has been going on for years. And I guess for the peaceful Muslims fine, BUT shouldn’t they have broken the mold and did something for all of our men and women who sacrificed so much for us, and for Muslims across the world?
Not only did my mind go bonkers when I heard this, but it reminded me of the time that they refused to light their building gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Now that is something I REALLY don’t understand. Our most vulnerable, beautiful examples of what a human can be, until they begin to understand the ugliness of the world.
In researching this I feel as confused as the [tooltip type=”link” link=”http://www.empirestaterealtytrust.com/properties/office/empire-state-building1″ target=”_blank” tooltip=”The building is owned by the Empire State Realty Trust, Anthony Malkin is the Chairman, CEO and President.” style=”top” ]owners[/tooltip] of the Empire State building must be. How do you show your compassion or celebration? The Empire State building stands out in our NYC skyline as one of the tallest buildings in the United States, so maybe they should favor the U.S. FIRST! Lets hope the Empire State building finds their heart.))
