Symbolizing our history and character.
Our US flag has
50 stars = 50 states
13 stripes = 13 original colonies
7 red stripes = symbolizes Hardiness and Valor
6 white stripes – symbolizes Purity and Innocence
THE ORIGINAL 13 COLONIES:
The Pledge of Allegiance by Francis Bellamy 1892.
“I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
CURRENT since 1954:
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
We celebrate Flag Day on June 14th each year to honor the United States flag and to commemorate the flag’s adoption. On the same day, the United States Army celebrates its birthday.
For blogging out loud)), it is still legal to burn our flag.
It was illegal up to 1989, when the Supreme Court ruled 5 to 4 in Texas v. Johnson that burning the flag is a form of symbolic speech protected by the First Amendment.))
